Monday, 3/6-Wednesday, 3/8: TED Talk Critiques and Revisions

3/6/2017

Class Biz
  • Were you here on Friday? Did you complete the critique group check-ins and critique scheduling I asked of you? If not, you need to do that FIRST thing today.  See Friday's DP blog below. If you did, THANK YOU!
  • Citing sources during your TED Talk?  If it's on a slide,  do a parenthetical citation at the bottom of the slide.  If it's verbal, just mention the author(s) by name.  Most presentations like this don't have a formal citation requirement, and I've already seen your bibliographies.
  • TED Talk Paneling Expectations, Sample Questions and Schedule

TED Talk Critiques
Follow the protocol linked above.

Revision and Practice
When you finish your critiques for the day, work on revising your TED Talk and practicing.

TED Prep Day 5- Critique Groups

3/3/2017

Dear students,
I'm out today. Round 2 of retirement home shopping.  This time in Palm Springs, FLORIDA.
But I miss you all already. Please read EVERYTHING on today's blog.  Remember, resources are on the senior project page toward the bottom of the page.

Sincerely,
Ashley

Starter:
Send invitation email to your TED Talk to the following people.  Make sure your email includes a polite salutation, the time and date of your TED Talk, your research question, and a brief description of what they can expect at the TED Talk
  1. Family
  2. Senior Project Advisor
  3. Any other teachers/students you would specifically like to attend
  4. CC your Humanities teacher on this email

Initial Feedback and Critique Scheduling: Critique Groups
Get into the assigned groups that are on the board and linked above.  No matter where you are in your process, you should do the following:
  1. Have each person talk through their presentation in turn.  They should address:
    1. What are you thinking about for your presentation?  Where are you right now?
    2. What are you feeling good about right now- where are the strong points?
    3. What are you concerned about?  Where do you need help?
    4. Show the group your slides, talk them through what they mean.
    5. What kind of help do you need?  Are there questions you have that the group could help you with?
  2. After the student talks through their presentation, the group will give informal verbal feedback on their slides and their presentation ideas.
  3. The presenter should commit to an area of focus for upcoming work time.

Once every member has talked through their presentations, you should schedule your critiques for Monday and Tuesday of next week.  You can do 2-3/day, as the critique protocol should take 30 minutes.  Write on the board who is being critiqued on what day.

Revise TED Talk Slides and Outline
Take your feedback, make it better!  You’ll need a revised version for formal critiques starting on Monday.
