Alright y'all here's what we got on the menu for today's class. Get stoked!

First, we'll hear from the lovely Jesse Hut about Senior Celebration on May 26th

Then I'll remind you about a few things:
  1. SPAM 3 due today at 3:15
  2. SPAM 4 Form due next Friday, March 25th
  3. Final drafts due 9:30 am on Wed. March 23rd PRINTED and turned into Ashley's tray!

Then we'll take care of some mandatory bizness!
  1. Take Jesse Hutt's survey for Senior Celebration 
  2. Fill out this form with your Senior Project TITLE and Research Question for our TED Talk schedule posters
  3. Sign up for 2 blocks to panel for TED Talks in the hallway
  4. Next Week's TED Intensive Schedule: You need to be here all week from 8:30-2:30. If this is a problem for you, please contact Lori by email as I won't be here next week.

Review from last Thursday's Class

1. ELEMENTS UPDATE!!!

See the handout linked above for an explanation of changes we're making to the structure of your paper.  Read it carefully, and let me know if you have any questions.  This is also, as always, linked on the Senior Project Page of my DP.

2. Peer Critique Protocol and Groups

See the handout linked above for your peer critique groups and instructions.  ABSENT?  Email one of the members of your group to find out your group's schedule and meeting times/places.

3. If you missed a lot of class last week and feel behind, please conference with me today!

Today's Agenda

Starter: Scheduling SPAM 4 Email
Deadlines:
1.Request letter MUST be sent by Wednesday, 3/16, EOC
2.Meeting should take place before Spring Break
3.SPAM 4 Form is due on Friday, 3/25, 3:15
 
SPAM 4 Request Email: Here are some things you should consider:
1. A ceremonious greeting/salutation
2. Heartfelt and beautifully crafted thanks for helping you with your paper up until this point
3. An explanation that we’re transitioning from talking about the paper to talking about your project
4. An explanation that there will be a total of 3 meetings about the project, 1 now, and 2 in the month of April.
5. The goals of the meeting, as laid out on SPAM 4 form
6. A suggested time for the meeting

Read this resource from Purdue OWL on  In-Text Citations and pay close attention to the various rules as well as how to punctuate citations--- where do periods go, etc...?

Writing Workshop: 
Setting up quotes
Exchange rough drafts with your neighbor
  • Read the setting up quotes handout (above)
  • Find a section where they have used a quote for evidence
  • Track changes so that they still have to make the change but correct any errors they have made in setting up the quote AND in-text citations.

Starter: Read through the Senior Thesis paper rubric(s) and jot down any questions you have (regular and Honors)

Go over this week's schedule and objectives

SPAM 3 Email Guidelines

See the Senior Project Page of my DP for the form, and what should be included in your email this time.  The email should be sent no later than the EOC tomorrow, and your draft must be emailed to your SPA by the EOC on Thursday.

Read through and general critique:
In groups of 3, swap papers parts I-III with someone in your group.  Read through all parts, and make comments as you go.  Things to note could include:
  1. Sentences that really stand out as clear and well-written
  2. Places where you got confused, or where things are unclear
  3. Ideas for revision
  4. Questions you have

Writing Workshop:  Transition and Topic Sentences 
Do ALL the steps for both parts in your same peer critique groups.

Work Time
  1. Write SPAM 3
  2. Revise draft
  3. Write Part IV

HOMEWORK
  1. Send SPAM 3 Email:  DUE- EOC Tuesday 3/8
  2. Write Part IV of draft
  3. Revise topic sentences and transitions in parts I-III
