College Essay Refinements and Conferences, continued

9/6/2019

Starter:  Read this short handout to compare how one student refined his essay.
  1. What changes did the student make? (In other words, what was somewhat weak about his first draft, and how did he improve it in the second?)
  2. What is one thing you are taking away from his refinements that you could apply to your own essay?

Class Biz: College Essay Deadline
  • Deadline on college essay final draft:   I am going to give you the 1st period of Humanities to make final touches on your college essay, get one more quick peer critique (by a peer of your choice), and print your final draft.  You'll need to print and share your draft with me by start of class on Wednesday.
  • Email me the FIRST PAGE of your college essay display board on Tuesday so I can print it
  • You need to have the display board done and hanging on the exhibition space in the hallway outside by the BEGINNING of class on THURSDAY.
  • This gives all students plenty of time, especially those students with whom I can't conference until Tuesday/Wednesday.
  • We will move on to the Justice Project starting the 2nd half of class on Tuesday.

WORK TIME AND CONFERENCES
  • Prepare for your conference with Ashley (see Tuesday's starter instructions)
  • Refine your college essay
  • Start another essay if needed for applications

Exit Ticket
  • How are you feeling about your college essay right now?
  • Why are you feeling that way?
  • How much time do you need to spend this weekend to get a solid draft done by the 2nd half of class on Tuesday?
