Afternoon Sven Agenda, Thursday, 9/3

9/3/2020

Here's the agenda for what y'all should be up to this afternoon
First, Pods 2 and 4 will finish whatever your Humanities class didn’t get through in the agenda for humanities! Then you’ll have work time to do the following two things in order:
  1. Write your letter to teachers for Humanities homework (DUE TOMORROW!)
  2. Work on your college essay
    1. Never Evers: (students who haven’t started it yet), read over the topics/prompts on the college essay boot camp handout (the one in google classroom and in your guidebooks) and begin brainstorming. See below for a lot of great suggestions on how to get started!

    2. The Vets (students who have started).
            a. Finish draft of your essay
        b.
Look at colleges you’re applying to and see what additional essays they require (supplemental essays)
            c. Begin brainstorming for those
          d. Also, this year, there will be an optional box on your app where you can talk about any extenuating circumstances that you had during covid and how that impacted your academics…..So, was something happening in your homelife, worklife, etc…
      e. Conference with a teacher

Getting Started Brainstorming Techniques

  • Mind map
  • Freewrite (literally just write stream of consciousness for as long as you can stand it!)
  • Freespeak (record it!)
  • Talk with a partner-- Record each other’s thoughts
    • Ask each other any of these 100 Brave and Interesting Questions (scroll down a bit to see the list)
  • Go for a walk- one person at a time, though, sorry :(
  • Check out this link for more Brainstorming Strategies
  • Skim through the table of contents of this guide to get more ideas and guidance on where to start, how to start, exercises to do, and example essays
  • Do anyone of these warm-up activities, which are VIDEO tutorials led by the College Essay Guy:
  1. 21 Details Exercise: 20 min.
  2. Everything I Want Colleges to Know About Me Exercise: 20 min.
  3. The Feelings and Needs Exercise: 15-20 mi
