Thursday, January 23rd:  Deep Reading work time!

1/23/2020

Picture
STARTER: How are you taking notes and keeping track of sources?
  1. In groups of 3-5, share out your strategy/format/approach/system to taking notes and keeping track of your sources and which bit of information came from which source, etc...
  2. Share out a few different strategies with the whole class.

Etymology Time! "RESEARCH"
But first: Scope out the inspirational quote by Hungarian biochemist who won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1937! He is credited with first isolating vitamin C and discovering the components and reactions of the citric acid cycle.

1590s, from Middle French recercher, from Old French recercher "seek out, search closely," from re-, intensive prefix (see re-), + cercher "to seek for," from Latin circare "go about, wander, traverse," in Late Latin "to wander hither and thither," from circus "circle"

Class Biz

  1. Did anyone meet in focus groups at the library yesterday?
  2. How was the library time? Shall we keep it up?
  3. Student-Led seminars are tomorrow, second half of Humanities. Please be sure you've listened to the assigned podcast by then (and for my morning pod, read the short op-ed as well). All "texts" are linked on the Homework page under Friday's column.
  4. Be sure to keep plugging away on your action project milestones!

Deep Reading work time!
Goal: Write 1 intertextuality paragraph (Forget what that is? Look at the Deep Reading guidelines on the senior project page and check out Lyle Bryson's example!)

By tomorrow: Make sure you’ve read/listened to the student-led seminar text! See homework page for this!
