11/28/2016

Class Biz
1. Senior POLs Guidelines (make a copy of this, and add it to your Drive)
  • Feel free to look over this if you want and do some more research over Thanksgiving but we will have Monday-Friday of the second week after Thanksgiving to work on these in Humanities.  Your POLs will take place the last week of the semester before winter break.  You will be required to participate in a critique panel for a number of students during that week.
  • This document is also linked on the Senior Project page of my DP.  Please MAKE A COPY of it before you start editing it!
2. Final Speeches are due MIDNIGHT on FRIDAY!!! Email me your FINAL, REFINED Speech, but best to just email me your speech the DAY you give your speech.
3. Reminder on Exhibition dress: Look Senatorial!  Get into character.
4. Let's review the MODEL SENATE SCHEDULE!
  • Tuesday:  Normal Classes
  • Wednesday:  Seniors go to their normal electives 1st and 2nd period.  Model Senate from 10-12.  After lunch, there is work time and space in Lori's, Ashley's, and Kyle's rooms for speech revisions, political strategizing, and any other work you may want to be doing.  Seniors go to normal 7th period class.
  • Thursday:  Seniors go to their normal electives 1st and 2nd period.  Model Senate from 10:30-12 and 1:00-2:15.  Seniors go to normal 7th period class.
  • Friday:  Classes as normal, but on the Wednesday schedule (only cores, no electives).  Model Senate at Noble Hall on Fort Lewis Campus from 5:00-8:00 pm.

TODAY'S AGENDA

Speech Work Time:
Take 20 minutes to work on your speech.  Tighten up the language, add an introduction or a strong conclusion, add evidence/research, etc.  Think you're done?  Come talk to Ashley.

Speech Practice/Critique:
I will pair you up.  Stand up and give your speech to your partner while they time you.  When you are done, they should verbally give you feedback on the following:
  1. How could they improve the performance aspect of this speech (body language, volume, pacing, etc.)?  Remember, we will NOT have microphones on Wednesday or Thursday!
  2. If their speech was TOO LONG:  What do you think they should cut?
  3. If their speech was TOO SHORT:  What could they add?  What was missing?
  4. What was the strongest part of their speech?  Why?
  5. What most needs to be improved in terms of the content of their speech?  How could they improve this?

EXHIBITION PREP:  Follow the Checklist!
See checklist for what you need to accomplish individually and as a class for Exhibition.  ALL of this needs to be done by the end of class.

HOMEWORK:
  • Bring Exhibition dress with you (or just wear it)
  • Make sure you are ready to go for tomorrow!
